La Selva Biological Station
Latitude, longitude, elevation, area: 37-130 m 1600 ha
La Selva, situated at the confluence of two major rivers in the Caribbean lowlands of northern Costa Rica, comprises 1,600 hectares (3,900 acres) of tropical wet forests and disturbed lands. It averages 4 m (over 13 feet!) of rainfall that is spread rather evenly throughout the year. The station is bordered on the south by Braulio Carrillo National Park, which contains more than 46,000 hectares of forest land and is the core conservation unit of the 91,000-hectare Cordillera Volcánica Central Biosphere Reserve.


Marine Biology Station-Universidad Nacional
Latitude, longitude, elevation, area: 10°N,85°W, 2m.a.s.l, 327 ha
This station is located in Puntarenas City, on the Pacific coast and within the Gulf of Nicoya estuary. Its main area of research is in fisheries and aquaculture as well as coastal management. The station also is active at undergraduated trainning in marine sciences.


Las Cruces Biological Station
Latitude, longitude, elevation, area: 8º 47'N, 82º 57'W, Elevation 1,120 to 1,385 m, 235 ha

Las Cruces is located near the Panamanian border on Costa Rica's southern Pacific coastal range, about six Km south of San Vito de Java..The grounds surrounding the buildings have 8 hectares of cultivated collections and 4 hectares of fallow and experimental plots.

Cloud Forest Reserve Monteverde
Latitude, longitude, elevation, area: 10º18´N,84º47´W. Elevation 700-1800 m.a.s.l., 10,500 ha
The Reserve is located in the Tilarán Range on the continental divide, about 40Km west from the InterAmerican Highway. Established in 1972, the Monteverde Preserve covers over 10,500 hectares, more than 90% of which is virgin forest. It contains an extremely high biological diversity, including over 2,500 plant species (among them 420 different kinds of orchids), 100 species of mammals, 400 bird species, 120 reptilian and amphibian species, and thousands of insects.


Biological Reserve Alberto M. Brenes at San Ramon
Latitude, longitude, elevation, area: 10o13´N, 85o37'W, 850-1500 m.a.s.l, 7800 ha
Located 50 Km NE of San Ramón city on the Continental Divide, this reserve is part of the Arenal Conservation Area. The site is located within the San Lorenzo river watershed draining to the Caribbean sea. With an area of 7800 Ha. this reserve is one of the few protected areas within the premontane belt. The site has atracted researchers mainly from Costa Rica, Germany and the US.A.

Biological Station Palo Verde
Latitude, longitude, area: 10°21´N, 85°21'W, 19000 ha
Palo Verde is located within the Palo Verde National Park on the Pacific slopes of Guanacaste Province in northwestern Costa Rica. The 19,000-hectare park has seasonally dry forest on limestone outcrops and extensive wetland vegetation bordering the Tempisque River that flows into the Gulf of Nicoya.
